The North Country Economic Development Council has embraced the Mercy redevelopment project in Watertown, meaning the state's economic incentives will flow to the $70 M downtown Watertown project by COR Companies of Syracuse. At a meeting at the scenic Malone Golf Club...(seriously, its the nicest course in the North Country), the Council hear from a COR briefer and yours truly on the need to support this transformational project which when combined with other projects planned will inject nearly $100M into downtown over the nest three to five years.
Senator Patty Ritchie, DANC's Jim Wright and Me in Malone I told the Council the now vacant Mercy complex is nine acres of Detroit in our downtown and this project removes the blight and provides housing for 168 families. Having the imprimatur of the Regional Council gives needed political muscle to the project. Senator Patty Ritchie and Assemblywoman Addie Russell also travelled to Malone for the meeting. There is construction in Gouverneur and Canton, if you are planning a golfing outing. Allow about two and a half to three hours.
