With Stephen Drews rehab all done what does that mean for Jose Iglesias

Jose Iglesias, the man who does wonders with his glove but "can't hit" has been "hitting" to a tune of .529 with a .556 on-base percentage. He has been able to use his extra 10 pounds of muscle to get solid contact and drive the ball. He has gotten two doubles in five games where as last year he had two doubles in 25 games. That with the added infield hits and bunts for base hits has proven to everyone that he can get hits in all different ways.So what does all that mean for his prospects this season. Well he certainly won't be the starter unless the Sox trade Stephen Drew. That scenario will most certainly not happen. So Iglesias will be sent down to AAA to hone his skills some more. Now I know everyone is jumping on the "why did we spend $9.5M on Drew" bandwagon. Well the Sox saw a player in Drew who could revitalize his career with a solid season in Boston, much like Adrian Beltre in 2010.All of that doesn't really help Jose and his major league prospects. The best he can hope for is an injury to Stephen Drew along with him hitting decently at the major league level. With Xander Bogaerts readying himself for a potential 2014 MLB debut, Iglesias doesn't have much of a chance of grabbing that starting spot that a couple years ago was his for the taking. All in all it looks like the best Jose can do is position himself to be traded. You may hear fans say he could be a good defensive replacement off the bench but with a glove like his that is as golden as can be, it would be a complete waste of his talents. Here are a couple highlights from Jose's season so far: Your browser does not support iframes.
